| Boundry Drive Fire |
Tue. Apr 6th 2010
After action report 100 Boundary Dr. On Tues. April 6th at 1436 Co 8 units were dispatched to a structure fire at 100 Boundary Dr. Co. This address is located in a rural water area and a TTF was requested by on duty Chief Jett. Chief Jett arrived early on and established himself as WS OIC. Units responding from 8 were Chief 8 R. Pinkston and K8 w/ Don Mills, later U8 w/ Larry Wemyss arrived w/ drinking water for FF's on scene. Chief 8 responded initially to the station and then directly to the scene. Eng 14(5)(shift?) confirmed a working fire with a smoke column from area of Lake Arrowhead. C8 arrived on scene w/ single story residential home well involved through the roof. Boundary Command was established at this time by Chief 8. Heavy fire was traveling from A side toward D side. Info was obtained that all occupants were out of the dwelling w/ 1adult male injured due to escaping out the 1st floor A side bedroom window. This pt. was directed to Med 10 and then to Med?(4) for transport to Stafford Hosp. with non-life threatening injuries. Eng 14 (E5) arrived on scene and immediately placed handlines in service. At about this time a substantial amount of ammunition stored by the home owner was exploding inside the dwelling on the first floor. All units were notified by command of this fact and due to the heavy fire and ammunition going off a defensive posture was established. The second engine arriving on scene was Eng 9. Eng 9 was directed to arrive on scene and protect exposures on side D. Damage (minor) to this exposure structure was caused by radiant heat and to a vehicle in driveway. Water supply for the incident was established by E2 drafting from Lake Arrowhead to K8 nursing to E14(5). The fire was brought under control within 1- 1 1/2 hours with multiple hose lines from both Engs. 14(5) and 9. Overhaul ops. were initially conducted by Rescue Squad 1. Some difficult hot spots were brought under control by personnel on scene rotating in and out of rehab due to warm weather conditions. The salvage and overhaul was made difficult due to the fact that the 1st floor had collapsed into the basement. Access was limited to side B due to burned live power lines. NOVEC was called in to cut power to the home, but a delay of about 30-45 mins was needed until power was completely cut. Once all fire was extinguished units picked up and returned to service by (time?). FM's 3&4 were on scene to conduct the fire investigation. Am. Red Cross was notified to assist 4 displaced from the home. A county bldg. inspector arrived to condemn the heavily damaged structure On a 2ndary note a baby squirrel nicknamed "Scorch" which was displaced by the fire, was taken into the care of Chief 8 and returned to the wild within 24 hours.
